"Stunning spot and amazing staff!"

a beautiful hotel in a perfect spot and run by an incredibly friendly team. Second stay here last week; we were allowed to check-in early (we arrived early assuming we were going to dump our bags and walk into town), upgraded to a canal-side room and offered advice on the local area. The rooms are quiet and the pool is stunning! I shall definitely be staying here again!

Highly recommend the breakfast - 12Euros and fill your boots with the tastiest fresh pastries, cakes, fruit, cereal etc, out on the beautiful quiet terrace.

All in all highly recommendable.

"Great canal-side location"

we loved our stay here and were sorry it was only for one night. Our room was on the canal side with a shared terrace and swimming pool outside (which we were told gets very noisy in the summer months!). The staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us information on restaurants, boat trips etc. We decided to have breakfast at a local cafe rather than in the hotel, but in Aigues Mortes nothing much seemed to be open before 10. The bakery opens early though and has the most delicious pastries. We will definitely try to come back and stay here next year!

"Very good hotel"

our arrival to the hotel was not a very good first impression. It was already a very gloomy day, and when we arrived, the reception was busy so we were asked to sit down. The area was very dark and gloomy as well, which did not add to our mood, so we looked for lights and put them on which bolstered the look of the place. After a reasonably long drive, the offer or the ability to have a coffee or a drink would have gone down well, so the managment may like to consider offering this facility. We opted to pay for the higher room category thinking we may get a bigger room with more facilites, but what happened was we paid an extra 30 euros for the use of a terrace, which was like a postage stamp, and in fact we didnt use it. Cheaper rooms overlook the road which is noisy, but rooms have very good airconditioning and double glazing so you cant hear much if you have them on. Rooms are on the small size, but adequate for the stay as you dont stay in your rooms. I agree with another comment to say that tea and coffee making facilities would have been nice. No english channel on the TV - the news would have been good to see. However, in just a short stroll you are at the gates of the walled city and all that is inside. In retrospect, I am glad we did not stay inside the city as it is veery touristy and a bit claustraphobic for me. The breakfast at 12 euros was very good value, very fresh, good coffee and tea and fresh fruit salad. Could not fault that. The staff in the hotel excellent and very very helpful. All in all a good stay and one that I would highly recomend.

"Nice Stay"
i stay at hotel Canal for 4 nights last week. From the moment i set foot in the hotel to the moment i left, everybody was super nice. The best was the breakfast, do not even consider going anywhere else. It will be the best spent 12 euros of your stay. The pool is also a nice feature... A bit cold at this time of the year but the surrondings are very pleasant. Had a room on the main floor facing the canal, was fairly quiet. The only time it was not was because of guests who were pretty loud at 1 am. Close enough from the Remparts but far enough to be away from the crowd....

"Three great nights in
the Petite Camargue”

the In late June we spend three nights in the Hotel Canal. It is right on the water, is very clean with lovely rooms and a small swimming pool. Everyone was very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious - with lots of choices - on the outside patio near the canal. It was a short work down to the walled city of Aigues Mortes.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area. They were helpful at recommending three excellent restaurants and made the reservations for us. There are many wineries close by - our visit to Listel was terrific. The white ponies of the camargue are beautiful and brave - and a must to see at one of the nearby Manades.

this hotel is located conveniently for the historic city of Aigues Mortes. It is on the banks of the canal and takes approximately 7 minutes to walk to the city. There is parking available and a railway station near by (I did not travel by train). The rooms are very clean and quiet, beds comfortable, air conditioning unobtrusive and ensuite bathroom clean and convenient. Breakfast is €12 and it is well worth it. what a great find! We came across this hotel based on reviews. We stayed three nights and used this as a base to travel around a bit. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the location really is great. Not only can you walk to the walled city, you have lots to explore in the area. The staff was so friendly and helpful and gave us great tips on where to go, and in English too! I have basic French but it was nice that my wife and daughter could also ask the staff questions and not have to rely on me to translate everything. We started each day with a great breakfast in the fresh air and a swim, and then went right back to the pool when we returned at the end of the day. This is what a great vacation is all about. ”

"10 mns away from Aigues Mortes walled city"

Very professional and caring welcome. Check-in was performed while sitting in chairs at the reception desk. Lots of suggestions shared about excursions at time of check-in. You may want to select rooms on the canal as the road in front of the hotel is very busy. The back of the hotel overlooks a very quiet canal and Aigues MOrtes is a short walk away. […] Clean and modern room, large bed, clean... All staff are very friendly. Breakfast was great especially when sitting outside either on the shade or in the sun. Great stay...

+ ... We booked this hotel very much at the last minute but were extremely pleased with our choice. It is a fairly small family-run hotel, and we were made very welcome. The lady who greeted us gave us plenty of advice about what to see, where to eat (all good). The room was simply furnished but comfortable and clean with a lovely view onto the canal. Breakfast was the usual buffet-style, with fresh bread and pastries and good coffee. The restaurant menu looked good, too, although we ate inside the walled city as we were sight-seeing. It was only a short walk along the canal tow-path to the ancient city walls. All-in-all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Above-average service”

this hotel's strength is its service. Wow. I believe there were 3 or 4 people who rotated duty in the office/behind the desk, and they all were fabulous. Upon our arrival, they gave us maps and a detailed restaurant guide. Whenever we saw them, they were always ready to help us with anything and were very pleasant to chat with (in French or in English!).
The road-facing side of the hotel almost seems easy to miss, but the back side facing the canal is very quiet and probably gorgeous in the summer. The old city is a 5-10 minute walk up the canal and across a bridge--very doable. The hotel itself is decorated modernly but tastefully, and the rooms we had were medium-sized. Breakfast was quite good as well. (Also, a little note: each room apparently is allowed a complimentary water bottle each night. My mother and I went to the fridge on the bottom floor to get one for later in the day, and it turned out to be an entire liter of water, which basically lasted us for the rest of our trip!)
All in all, a great choice for a brief stay in Aigues-Mortes. ”

we-chose Hotel Canal as a one night stopover on our way from Perpignan to Nice. The hotel has easy parking out the front and is a convenient 10 minute walk to the walled city. Our room was comfortable and clean- though on the small side as our bags didn't easily fit! We thought the breakfast was a little overpriced for what we received but over all good value for what we were after.

"Lovely staff and great service"

we stayed here for one night in mid-September 2012 and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is definitely not flashy, but is very clean and comfortable and is in a nice location beside the canal. We found it good value for money. It also has a nice swimming pool and an outdoor terrace for breakfast/drinks etc. It's an easy walk to the walled village from the hotel and the receptionist, Beatrice, is an absolute delight. She gave us some good ideas for things to do while we were there and for restaurants, as well as making the bookings for us. Nothing was every too much trouble. We would stay here again.

"Lovely hotel, lovely staff, lovely surroundings!"

i stayed with a friend at Hotel Canal for 6 nights in July. Aigues-Mortes is a really beautiful, medieval walled city with close access to excellent beaches, specifically L'Espiguette.
The hotel is very nice: modern, clean, well decorated, air conditioned. Rooms either view the canal or street (called "urban" view"). We stayed in a room with street view and due to the triple glass on the windows, we heard nothing! There is a very sweet breakfast area outside and lovely pool and lounge area. It's one of the few hotels which I found the reality even nicer than in the photos.

The thing which really stands out about the hotel Canal though is the staff. Until now, there was a hotel in Barcelona to whom I would award "best service" but now Hotel Canal tops it. They are so helpful, kind and engaging. It always amazes me how much it impacts a stay to have such a high level of customer service. The reception persons sit down and explain all the highlights of the area, helped us book trips, give advice etc. So wonderful!

From the hotel it's a very short walk to the old city and only 5 min by car to the large (L'Espiguette) beach. Also, Nîmes is close and Le Grau Du Roi is very close with some nice boat trips. It was just what we had in mind, an ultra relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

"Lovely little place, well located for seeing the sights of Aigues Mortes"

our second trip to Aigues Mortes and we ended up at Hotel Canal due to an overbooking in our previous hotel - a stroke of luck for us as this place is just lovely!! The Receptionist Beatrice was delightful - nothing was too much trouble to explain and she handed us the map and directed us to the best highlights. She is an absolute asset!! Throughout our two night stay all the staff were friendly and helpful. There is a lovely little pool on a first floor balcony with sunloungers for guests. Our room was clean, modern and very well airconditioned.

Its a short walk into the old walled town and easily accessible on foot. Great hotel, well managed, and a real credit to the staff and owner who run it. well done. Will certainly stay again when we return to the area.

"very nice family hotel"

we went there to spend New Year' eve in family. My wife chose that hotel based on recommendations she saw on various websites (including trip advisor). The whole trip went really ok. It is a small family hotel, so do not except a 24 hours concierge service nor a bar. Nevertheless, on our way back from new year eve, the manager left some drinks at the reception wich we considered to be a lovely attention. Rooms were ok (a bit small for 3 but ok), perfectly clean (no bad smell neither), quiete place, simple but very good breakfast, free wifi and free parking access. Walking distance for the medieval-city (where there are some restaurants, as the hotel only proposes breakfast). Will definitely come back.

"Deserves its No 1 rating"

don't be worried by the rather dull looking exterior on the road frontage. The other side backing onto the canal is much more pleasant as is the outlook and the interior of the hotel is very modern, very clean and with lots of interesting artworks and lighting. The welcome was very friendly and included a map of Aigues Mortes and advice on what to see and restaurants. Our room was spacious overlooking the canal and really clean. Every room gets a large bottle of water every day which was welcome. Excellent WiFi. Tea and coffee making facilities would be nice though. Pool looked nice but the weather was'nt ! Breakfast at 12 euros was excellent - cereals, croissants, fruit, cheese, ham, jams, cakes.... etc and set you up for the day.
Hotel Canal really is only 5 mins walk into the town so is really convenient. Aigues Mortes is a lovely town - the walls are well worth walking ( total time including the tower about an hour), some nice shops and restaurants though most of the streets within the walls are just residential. There are boat trips on the canals but we did'nt partake. We did visit the Ornithological Park and that was good ( take binoculars if you have them ) but we did'nt like Saint Marie de la Mer ( a bit tacky). Plenty of white horses and black bulls to be seen - though don't think any of them are wild these days - there seemed to be too much fencing around for them to be wild - nonetheless good to see.
Very nice hotel - we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend whole heartedly.

"Unusual review”

we live in France and travel around on the rivers and canals on our house boat. A group of friends wanted to come to Aiges Mortes to see us and booked The Canal hotel from trip advisor. The hotel has a small private mooring which they kindly included in the deal for us to be able to moor near our friends.

For the week we were all here they could not have been more helpful. The rooms were super, breakfasts were buffet style and great. There is no restaurant here, but with 50 or so on the town that was to our advantage as we could explore the town together.

Hello!

Thank you for your loyalty, your recommendations and advices. We are pleased to welcome you with your family, every year for New Year's Eve.

We are not sure to understand your request. During your last stay in 2012, we provided bottles of fresh water for our customers returning from their holiday meals. Since we thought it was nicer to offer this service every day of the year. That is why, since May 2013, we installed a big red refrigerator in self-service, for one bottle of water free, per room per night. As you point this fact, in your advice and tip.

Again thank you to you. A soon!

The continental breakfast was very good and again with good presentation and good choices. When we arrived we were given a great welcome and provided with maps and detailed directions with restaurant recommendations. On departure we were given options for our onward journey. Couldn't have been more helpful. It is a short easy walk to the medieval city along the canal. Really handy for everything. I would happily stay longer than this overnight stop.

"wonderful, welcoming hotel,
great location too”

I went with my boyfriend for a 4 day stay. The hotel is wonderfully located and gave as a great chance to enjoy the lovely town of Aigues Mortes, both in the day time and at night. I am a light sleeper but I slept perfectly here which was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious and it was so nice to have it al fresco. Although we went mostly to the beach, the swimming pool was a nice treat too. The service was really good and if we needed any advice on what to do or where to go, there was plenty of friendly and helpful advice, whether it was places of interest, things going on in the town, restaurants etc. This region is lovely with plenty of things to do and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a place from which to enjoy everything. Thank you!

+ ... “Wonderful small hotel! Very friendly and helpful staff; delicious breakfast; close by (walking distance) Aigues-mortes, a nice town to visit and to have dinner; and close by (by car, but not far) a unique, very natural beach (plage de l'espiguette). The canal is wonderful to make your own trip in a hired boat (no license necessary), and in contrast to staying in the Camargue, in Aigues-Mortes, there are almost no mosquitos.” ”

+ ... Staff really take care of their guests and the hotel ... we liked the terrace with loungers & small pool, the reading room, wonderful breakfast. Some nice touches - fridge water available at night (from beautiful red smeg fridge), you could use terrace to eat your own lunchtime picnic, they will recommend and book restaurant (needed for best places when busy), vintage 1950s magazine in reception (hotel built in 50s but boutique desin inside now - don't be put of by exterior from main road). Double glazing blocks all main road sounds and back rooms over look the canal...it's a nice 10min stroll into walled city along the canal walkway.”

"We made a good choice!”

we found the hotel on-line. When we got to Aigues-Mortes the hotel was very easy to find and brilliantly positioned. Very close to the beautiful old town. It doesn't look much from the road but inside the hotel is excellent. It is worth asking for a room overlooking the canal. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Room very comfortable. Good shower. Delicious breakfast and much better value than some we've had! ”

+ ... Small charming modern hotel. Staff was really friendly and spoke English. They helped us find shops and recommended restaurants and arranged special taxi service to Montpellier airport which was half an hour away at 4:30 am (which came 10 minutes early). Breakfast pastries were varied and outstanding. We needed lumber for use at an event held by fortress walls where we were participants and Patrice went with my husband to the lumberyard near the hotel to translate and then drove him to the event site at the other end of the fortress. Beatrice made dinner reservations for us at a nearby fabulous gourmet restaurant and made sure that that a specific duck meal was available for us. There is a small supermarket near the hotel where we got items for a picnic on the hotel patio, along with wine! I asked specific questions by email beforehand regarding amenities and staff responded quickly. Hotel owner loaned us a scale to be sure our baggage wasn't overweight. Staff really went out of their way to make sure we were happy. They moved us to a downstairs room the second week so we would have an easier pre-dawn departure.

"Great location - Superb breakfast !”

aigues-Mortes is a great place to visit and the Hotel Canal ideally placed to explore it - easy to find, outside town with free parking and only a short walk along the canal bank to the City walls.
It was great value for money - our room was small but well equipped , the reception staff helpful and well informed and the breakfast was really lovely.

"Good hotel on the canal, 10 mn from walled city"

this hotel was easy to find. As we approached Aigues-Mortes, we drove slowly on D979 “route de Nimes”, and saw large signs indicating the hotel location. We parked in front of the hotel. Then, walking out the back door, the walled town is 10 minute walk, walking along the canal, and across a bridge. I chose this hotel because I didn’t want to drive into a small walled city, and deal with the difficult maneuvering. So the Hotel Canal was a good fit for us, easy parking and a quick walk to the old city. The hotel has no lift, but the proprietor helped with one suitcase. We had booked a large room, with a small and adequate bathroom with a shower, and toilet compartment. Because we stayed only one night, we didn’t sit on the terrace, or use the plunge pool. Breakfast included a large selection of items, good coffee and pastries, as well as cheese. The proprietors are kind, and willing to help with information about the area. This hotel is a good choice

"Really friendly helpful staff"

i stayed with my daughter just for one night - the staff were really helpful, as we didn't have much time they spent time telling us all about the best things to see and visit and their recommendation of restaurant was spotless. Getting to the walled city is only a short walk away along the canal. Breakfast was great and the rooms clean and comfy.

We'd definitely would go back

"Beautiful Riverside Hotell"

this was our second visit to Hotel Canal. The rooms are quite small and there is no lift, but the service is very good and is within a few minutes walk along the canal to the walled Aigues Mortes. There is free parking and the wifi was good. Breakfast outside under the vine covered pergola beside the canal was lovely. The hotel was easy to find with a GPS but is on a very busy road, which makes it difficult to get in and out of.

"Stay here!!! - comfortable, relaxing hotel with a delicious breakfast. Punching above its weight.”

we stayed at Hotel Canal at the beginning of July 2012. The hotel was well signposted, easy to find and had ample parking. We were greeted by Jacques, the owner of the hotel and an extremely pleasant and helpful man. Jacques provided us with an English guide book of the surrounding area and a map with a list of local restaurants. A note for those of you who like your food: Aigues- Mortes has literally dozens of restaurants , but if you want to eat well, avoid the main square and stick to the restaurants suggested by the hotel.

We hadn’t booked breakfast before we arrived (having been put off by the rather steep price of 12 Euros per person, per day). However, on Jacques’ suggestion we tried breakfast out on our first morning ‘to see if we’d like it’. This was a very cunning ploy by Jacques. – The breakfast (and I make no apologies for bigging it up) was divine. A delicious fresh fruit salad, fresh juice, meats and cheeses, lovely coffee, hot chocolate and a large selection of teas greeted us every morning. The best part of the breakfast was the large selection of delicious, freshly-baked pastries, muffins, cakes and bread. It was definitely value for money.

We paid 89 Euros for a basic road-facing room. In reality, the room we got was more side facing (we could see the road the neighbouring supermarket). This, however, was not a problem as there was no traffic noise whatsoever and in fact no other noise from other rooms either. The room was simply and stylishly decorated with an extremely comfortable bed. It could have benefited from more storage space and a shower curtain, although it was a nice surprise to find we had a bath as well as a shower.

The hotel was very clean, all of the staff were friendly and helpful and the in-room wi-fi worked very well. The location was delightful. The pool terrace and garden, where breakfast was served, both looked out over the picturesque canal. The five minute walk into town along the canal was a pleasant surprise.

All-in-all, a lovely stay. We will surely be back.

"spot on”

we stayed We spent 7 nights at the Hotel Canal and found it very friendly and inviting as soon as we arrived. It is "boutique" and modern. Everywhere is tastfully decorated. Our room on the ground floor was a good size, as was the bathroom with shower. The bed was comfortable and the air-con worked really well. The staff are obviously proud of the hotel and project a perfect balance of professionalism and warmth. Breakfast is delightfull, with numerous pastries, local bread, fresh fruit, cereal and excellent coffee. Be advised on the best restaurants in the area and you wont be disappointed. The Boem, Camargue and Restaurant 'S' were superb. Aigue Morte has almost no bars to just sit and drink, but the restaurants off the main square, are never in a rush to move you on. We watched a brilliant firework display on the saturday outside the city wall and had a lovely walk around the ramparts one afternoon, with great rooftop views of the little town below and panaramic scenery of the surrounding countryside. The nearest beach is a ten minute car ride and is clean with safe bathing and even more restaurants and boat trips etc. It is not exactly a 'cheap' area to holiday, so get the best deal for your euro's before you go.The hotel has a small pool on the second floor, with sun beds, tables and drinks will be delivered by just a call. It was again, really good. It is not a place for families with children who need entertainment, but for couples looking for a degree of seclusion, space to chill and just enough history and more than enough fine dining within a short distance, the Hotel Canal was 'spot on' (just dont forget mosquito spray, for those balmy evenings)

From roadside the building does not look much, but at rear there is a sunny first floor terrace with swimming pool and pleasant outlook over the canal. Good location in that it has parking whereas hotels within the town would be difficult for parking. "Very pleasant surprise"

we stayed 4 nights at this pleasant and well managed hotel. From the road the building is austere but inside it is clean and functional though somewhat minimalist. The staff couldn't be more friendly or more helpful. The room wasn't large but then we didn't spend a lot of time in it and the terrace was a very nice location to read, have a drink or even use the small swimming pool. The excellent buffet breakfast was eaten outside. It is only a 10 minute walk into the interesting walled town and the small road along the canal is much quieter than he busy main road.

"Very good modern small hotel"

hotel canal in Augues Mortes is a modern, well-run, somewhat austere hotel with a very friendly personnel. It is located close (10 min walk) to the medieval town, next to a canal, the hotel has a small garden and patio. Parking is available free at the hotel, ample space.
The service is friendly and attentive, the reception is not 24/7 but doors work with codes, no problem. We got good advice from Jacques Galliot when arriving on a monday, when many places in town were closed. A recommended restaurant was open and very good.
The rooms are sparsely furnished, heating and air-conditioning work well, the beds are very comfortable. The soundproofing is good, traffic on the throughfare next to the hotel can hardly be heard and canal side rooms are even quieter.
More wardrobe space in the room would be useful!
The breakfast is not cheap at 12 eur/person but the cold buffet was delicious and immaculately presented..
